UNISA for Summer Universiade 2019

Presentation of the new PALAUNISA A and PALESTRA UNISA

Today at the Baronissi campus, there was the cutting of the ribbon of the presentation week “Unisa for Universiade“: this week  the University of Salerno will present all the new sports infrastructures created and redeveloped on the Baronissi and Fisciano campuses. With the slogan “UNIverSiAde on Campus”, our University is ready to welcome the XXX University Summer Olympics to the two campuses, so as to fully experience the sporting event for the whole community and territory.

On the Baronissi campus, stage of the Fencing semi-finals and finals, the scheduled works have been completed, starting from the new PALAUNISA A and PALESTRA UNISA, both subject to substantial expansion, adaptation and functional modernization of the spaces. The PalaUnisa A will host the fencing competitions, semi-finals and finals, as well as doping, medical and locker room control activities.

“We had a building and gym dating back in time and now, in their place, we find ourselves two completely renovated and modernized structures – declared the rector Aurelio Tommasetti. We were able to do all this both with the funding received from the ARU and thanks to a substantial contribution invested by our University that has allowed us to create the PalaUnisa B and C as well as the new road system. We will be the only University where sporting events as well as the accommodation of athletes will be held on our campus. Our strength has been the programming: with concreteness and planning we have moved in time and in these days, we dedicate ourselves to the presentation of what we have realized. Our plants, after July 14, will be available to both the users and the territory “.

The 2019 Universiade Commissioner Gianluca Basile said: “Here on the Baronissi campus, we have created the works and we are preparing for the party. 1000 athletes from 128 countries is an important number. The Universiade represents a unique opportunity to showcase the beauty of the campus, the only university campus that will host the event in its spaces, from sports facilities to residences as well as a canteen. I’m happy with the consolidated synergy between the University of Salerno and all the other institutions: together for a beautiful representation of Campania and its potential”.

Afterwards, the event continued with a visit to the new PALESTRA UNISA, which will host the Press Room, the arms control area, the general technical meeting room and the massage room on the days of the Universiade.
