The groundbreaking ceremony for UNISA Olympic Village
The Baronissi Campus held the groundbreaking ceremony for UNISA Olympic Village. With the symbolic laying of the First Stone, the building works for the construction of UNISA Sports facilities were officially opened. The ceremony was attended by: the rector Aurelio Tommasetti and the Prefect Luisa Latella, extraordinary Commissioner of the 2019 Universiade.
“This initiative serves to give an almost official start to the Universiade,” said Prefect Latella. It is nice that it is open right by the University, because the Universiade are the university’s Olympic sports. This is the first sporting event after the Olympics, due to their size: there are 10,000 participating athletes, from 176 nations around the world, accompanied by large delegations of technicians, referees and experts. It is a unique occasion for Campania and, therefore, it is worth trying and trying to make it. Sport is a beautiful dimension, capable of forming a team, giving rules in serenity “.
And in reference to the infrastructures for the Universiade that will be built at the University of Salerno, the Prefect added: “The activity that the University of Salerno has started is of the highest level, to which we give a contribution to better promote a sport highly acclaimed in Italy, what is fencing. The world of universities in Campania is giving a positive and remarkable response to the event. In the coming days the organization of the Universiade volunteer teams will be held and this will be another decisive activity for the event. ”
“The Prefect Latella wanted to participate with great willingness in this inaugural event,” said the rector. When the Universiade were assigned to Campania in 2015, we immediately moved to do our best, both from Campani and from followers of sporting values. And with a precise purpose: to rewrite the history of the Baronissi Campus and bequeath new sports facilities to young people, to the territory, to the Region. Today there is the laying of the First Stone which means that the activities of our yards have started: we will host the Fencing which is a sport that has given honor to our country, in Italy and in the world, and which has had great expression also in territorial level. We have invested about 5 million euros for the financing received from the ARU, precisely because we want to carry out an important work: we renovate the existing Palazzetto, PalaUNISA A, we restructure the current Pilotis Gym, we realize a new Palazzetto, PalaUNISA B , and we also build the Bus Terminal to facilitate travel to and from the campus ”.
Before showing the rendering of the final project, the rector added: “We live it like a big party also because the Guest Village will be immersed in the Fisciano campus, so as to make both our university realities fully involved in the atmosphere of the event” .
