UNISA welcomes the Universiade 2019 organizing committee

The University of Salerno is the third stage of the “Universiade 2019” tour in the Campania universities.

Wednesday, June 27, 2018, the organizing committee of the great university sporting event, scheduled from July 3 to 14 next year in the whole Campania, met the University community of Salerno to illustrate the 2019 Universiade Volunteer Program. To welcome the event staff an audience packed with young students. The aim of the meeting was not only to inform the latter about a sporting event, the Universiade, which by number (18 sports, 11,000 athletes and 170 nations represented) is second only to the Olympics, but above all to motivate, among the members , the majority of the 10 thousand volunteers who will have the task of welcoming and caring for the various sports delegations and to fully experience the organizational phase of the 2019 Universiade.

To open the works, coordinated by Luciano Feo, Delegate for the organization of the Universiade Napoli 2019 for UNISA, was the greeting by the Rector Aurelio Tommasetti: “From 2015, with the assignment of the Universiade to Campania, there we are immediately activated to plan all that is necessary, also choosing to add a substantial financing to the project in addition to that received by the commissioner. The discipline that we will host will be fencing. Today’s student participation repays us for the sacrifices made so far and gives us a positive sign of what will be the involvement of our University. I like to underline that we are the only university to host the event within its two campuses, with a hospital facility supervised by our Ordinary of Orthopedics, prof. Maffulli. We will experience the Universiade experience inside the University “.

The university sports facilities, created for the event, will remain in the endowment of the universities and their users. For students there is a good chance to confront an international event and also to get involved as a volunteer professionally ”

To underline the importance of participation in the Volunteer Program and the commitment connected to the activities of a volunteer was also prof. Nicola Maffulli, Rector Delegate for the health sector of the Universiade Napoli 2019 for the University of Salerno.

In reference to the sports facilities dedicated to the Fencing that will be built at the University of Salerno, Giorgio Scarso, President of the Italian Fencing Federation, said: “Imagine that in a few months time the Fencing will have a structure to host international competitions, I think it is a strong message for Italy and our South. The investment made for this event is above all a cultural and social fact., that of Salerno will be an international sports center thanks to the Universiade and the foresight of the University “.

The ceremony continued with the testimonies of the athletes Massimiliano and Claudia Mandia, Salerno archers, Fiamme Azzurre, protagonists of various editions of Universiade and Olympics and Michele Gallo and Claudia Memoli, silver medals European Championships Fencing under17.
